Polyurethane idler roller
1. Characteristics of polyurethane materials
Polyurethane (PU) is a high-molecular synthetic material that combines the elasticity of rubber and the strength of plastic, and it has the following characteristics:
• Wear resistance: Far superior to rubber and ordinary plastics, suitable for high-friction and high-load scenarios.
• Corrosion resistance: Resistant to acids, alkalis, oils and some solvents, suitable for harsh environments such as chemical plants and mines.
• Impact resistance: Good elasticity, capable of buffering the impact of materials and reducing the wear of the conveyor belt.
• Low noise: It operates with minimal vibration and low noise, making it suitable for applications with high requirements for quietness.
• Lightweight: Compared with metal idlers, it is lighter in weight, reducing equipment energy consumption.
2. The structure of polyurethane rollers
A typical polyurethane idler roller consists of the following parts:
• Roller body: The outer layer is a polyurethane coating layer, and the inner layer is usually a steel pipe or a high-strength plastic core, providing support.
• Bearings: Sealed deep groove ball bearings or rolling bearings are adopted to ensure smooth rotation.
• Shaft: Made of stainless steel or carbon steel, with the position of the fixed idler roller.
• Sealing structure: Dust-proof and water-proof design to extend service life.
•3. Main advantages
• Extend the service life of conveyor belts: The flexibility of polyurethane reduces the wear and tear on conveyor belts.
• Maintenance-free: Sealed bearings and corrosion-resistant materials reduce maintenance requirements.
• Energy conservation and environmental protection: Lightweight design reduces driving energy consumption, and polyurethane is recyclable.
• Wide adaptability: Suitable for damp, dusty and corrosive environments.
4. Application fields
• Mining industry: Heavy-duty transportation of ores, coal, etc.
• Food processing: Complies with food-grade standards (non-toxic and easy to clean).
• Logistics sorting: Automated conveyor lines for express delivery and warehousing.
• Agriculture: Conveying equipment for grains and feed.
• Chemical/Metallurgy: Material transfer in corrosion-resistant scenarios.
5. Technical parameters
• Load-bearing capacity: Depending on the core material and structural design, it can usually reach 500kg to 2 tons.
• Operating temperature: -40°C to 80°C (extendable range with special formula).
• Specification and size: The diameter is commonly 50-200mm, and the length is customized according to the width of the conveyor belt.
• Surface treatment: Smooth, patterned (to increase friction) or rubber-coated composite design.
6. Selection and Maintenance
• Selection suggestions:
Select the appropriate specification based on the load, speed and environment.
Stainless steel bearings and shafts are preferred in humid environments.
• Installation Precautions:
Make sure the idlers are aligned with the conveyor belt to avoid uneven grinding.
Regularly check if the bearings are stuck and replace the damaged idlers in time.
• Maintenance method:
Clean surface attachments (such as sticky materials).
Lubricate the bearings regularly (depending on the model).
